New Artist: Stephen Jacklyn
Monday, March 8, 2010 at 3:29PM TRA is proud to welcome a new artist to our space! Stephen Jacklyn is a local glassartist that has skills that exceed past his age. A recent graduate from the College for Creative Studies, Stephen has worked with glass daily at school and at his job at Greenfield Village, perfecting the craft.
We have a wonderful ensemble of his Chalcedony glass, which is an old technique that is rarely used or known in today's modern glassblowing. Chalcedony Glass features polychromatic veins running through a dark-colored glass. This is obtained by mixing various metal compounds in a certain fashion, to imitate the natural stones such as chalcedony, agate, and malachite. It was known and used in ancient Egypt, and then re-discovered in Murano in the fifteenth century. The secret of the technique was then lost again and subsequently re-discovered by Lorenzo Radi in the later part of the 19th century.
All of his work is hand crafted and perfectly blown glass that will leave you in awe.
